Sam came to us at Workskills last year, not really sure of what he wanted to do. He thought he would really like to work in the horticulture industry or an apprenticeship in construction or automotive, so he started actively job searching by cold calling and searching online.
Sam enrolled in Horticulture, Traffic Management, First Aid and White Card Courses with the Bridgewater Linc. Feedback from Julia at the Linc was excellent and he did not miss one day. Julia said that Sam was eager to learn and successfully completed his course.
Sam then chose to undertake the Realise Program run by our Employability Skills Trainer, Adrian, which assisted Sam with identifying his currents skills, which of those an employer needs and helped him develop a plan to improve those skills that needed some work.
Sam said that successfully completing these courses, along with the guidance he received, assisted him with becoming self-confident, motivated and committed to working.
Sam’s greatest barrier to employment now was not having a licence, so we made him a deal – find an employment opportunity and we’ll help with a motorbike licence. Before we knew it, Sam had found an opportunity with Marco’s Concreting! We kept our side of the bargain and got Sam into the next available Motorbike course.
And then he was off!
He’s a concreter – working hard each day – and sleeping well every night too, I bet!
