Derwent Valley Harvest Trail getting closer to reality

Derwent Valley Harvest Trail

The New Norfolk Site has been for some time now trying to establish a Derwent Valley Harvest Trail.

After talking with several high profile employers within the region certain barriers were identified which would have to be addressed before such a project could be accomplished.

Training and transport dominated the general discussion with employers along with reliability and how these barriers could be addressed.

Workskills managed to secure some Horticulture training (TAS TAFE) that not only provided the necessary skills set but was accompanied with a work placement providing the participants with a chance to experience first-hand the day to day operations of the industry whilst giving prospective employers an opportunity to observe their respective talents.

In addition Workskills New Norfolk site managed to set up a meeting with Mr Rene Hidding Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management and Minister for Infrastructure to discuss the issue of transport.

Minister Hidding, was very open and honest with his understanding of the transport issues facing the local population and was keen to talk to local council and try and identify some government funding to solve current transport issues and offer support to other agencies within the Derwent Valley.

Given the rapid expanse of the Horticulture industry within the Derwent Valley we are edging closer to our dream of establishing the Derwent Valley Harvest Trail with the ultimate prize of giving our clients an opportunity to secure employment locally.
