Breaking through the barriers!

Mentor

Workskills Glenorchy has been working with a 21 year old female who left school early and has never maintained any employment. She has been registered with Workskills for 155 weeks and presented frequently with lack of motivation to work or further her education. She regularly missed appointments and was extremely difficult to engage which was also impacted by drug and alcohol issues. She had no set goals in life and had a negative outlook.

Approximately 9 months ago she was referred to an Intensive Support Consultant to mentor her and deliver a tailored approach and work on addressing her barriers. Some of the barriers they worked on were motivation, job searching techniques and changing of attitude particularly for the work place.

With positive encouragement from her consultant she was referred to and completed her Cert III in Individual Support (Aged Care) which addressed her limited education barrier. She has since improved her attendance with Workskills to work on her resume and cover letter and has been out cold canvassing which is a very large step for her. The fantastic news is she has obtained employment from this and commences work as a Carer on Monday.

She has also obtained her Learners Licence and is working her way towards gaining her P`s which will enable her to obtain more work.

All reports are she is extremely excited about the positive changes she has made in her life and is very grateful to her consultant for the support she received.
