Building literacy skills and confidence

Workskills have a great relationship with 26TEN. 26TEN is a network of organisations and individuals working together to improve adult literacy and numeracy in Tasmania.

It was identified that Angela struggled with reading and writing. After many years of struggle and isolation, Angela was referred to Glenorchy LINC to get help with her reading and writing. In 2016, Angela had weekly one-on-one tutoring and completed a number of short courses. She has grown in confidence and is on a pathway to success.

In November 2016, Angela told her story to the 26TEN Coalition, a group of Tasmanians supporting business, community, government and individuals to work together to improve adult literacy and numeracy in Tasmania. Angela’s story is one of courage, resilience and joy. She told of overcoming fear and the many things she can now do because of increased literacy and confidence. Angela’s message is that anyone can do it. You just have to ask for help. Workskills staff can refer clients struggling with literacy and numeracy to their local LINC or call the 26TEN hotline, 1300 00 2610.

26TEN is Tasmania’s campaign for adult literacy and numeracy. The name refers to the 26 letters of the alphabet and ten digits we use for counting.
