This program is available to prisoners, who meet certain criteria, and prepares participants for employment with the aim of reducing recidivism and reliance on welfare upon release.
“For those leaving prison and seeking to reintegrate back into society, gaining suitable employment and having post placement support is critical in the transition from incarceration into the community, as leaving prison is a critical transition point. Even with assistance from community services, they often remain in danger of carrying on their previous excluded status prior to prison into release, unless key markers such as employment are addressed” (Jonathon Field, Senior Consultant, Integrated Offender Management, Tasmania Prison Service).
