Tori commenced with Workskills in April this year as a transfer from Transition to Work and we quickly identified that she had a real interest in the Transport & Logistics industry and that she had an employment goal of becoming a truck driver.
Tori was referred to Leon from the Employer Services Team and as a pathway towards her employment goal was successful in securing a spot in the ‘Civil Works’ training program through Maritime and Industry Workplace Training (MIWT). This pre-employment training enabled Tori to gain accredited qualifications specific to paid employment opportunities in both the Transport & Logistics industry and the civil works and building space.
Tori successfully gained certifications in;
- Confined Spaces
- Working at Heights
- First Aid
- Manual Handling
- Elevated Work Platform
- Scissor Lift
Workskills then supported Tori to gain her Medium Rigid Truck licence and as a result of successfully completing this training, Employer Services Officer Leon was able to secure a PaTH internship opportunity with local small business Connect Safety Solutions.
Tori impressed the employer throughout her PaTH Internship which gave them the opportunity to assess her suitability for their business and on successful completion of the Internship, Tori was offered ongoing employment and commenced with the company on 23/07/18.
Fantastic result for all involved and great to see a young woman establishing herself in an industry that historically has been a male domain.
Congratulation Tori and safe driving!
