Corey, a Workskills Bridgewater client, has just been given the chance of a lifetime.
Corey has been working with our Senior Consultant Extraordinaire, Wendy (Senior Woo), for the past year or so, attending the office every Friday and tackling whatever learning project Wendy can find for him.
Recently, Wendy arranged for him to meet up with Peter from White Lion, who accepted Corey into their Mentoring Program. As part of this program, Peter has organised for Corey to participate in an eight-day youth development sail training program on STV Windeward Bound from Strahan to Devonport.
The aim of this program is to:
- provide exposure to water recreation and a potential future career path
- develop resilience and capacity amongst Tasmania’s youth
- build community connections and overcome geographic barriers
- help to build a skilled and passionate workforce and to preserve Tasmania’s cultural heritage
Opportunities like this don’t come along often and Corey is excited (and perhaps just a touch nervous!). It’s the kind of trip that could open up a whole world of exciting options for Corey and who knows what will be around the corner!
We’re all keen to catch up with Corey when he gets back to hear his ‘stories from the sea” and work with him to tackle the next step in his journey.
